What is not established

Make a room-and-time record

Ask for the exact label values

For the proposed size, glass, frame, grids, tint, coating, and operating configuration, ask for the current NFRC label or other applicable configuration-specific record. Compare U-factor, solar heat gain coefficient, visible transmittance, and air leakage only in the context of the room goals and project requirements.

Review the whole opening

Shading, window coverings, air sealing, installation, surrounding construction, and mechanical conditions can affect the result. Assign the qualified parties who will assess those factors rather than promising a temperature, savings amount, or condensation outcome.

NFRC describes visible transmittance as daylight admitted and solar heat gain coefficient as the fraction of solar heat admitted. ENERGY STAR advises selecting for climate zone and preserving the label; DOE describes daylight, view, ventilation, and solar control as window functions.
