What is not established

What the federal standard requires

CPSC's hazard sheet says reversing systems are required on all openers made or imported for US sale after January 1, 1991, with an external entrapment-protection requirement added in 1993. The 2018 direct final rule conformed 16 CFR Part 1211 to the seventh edition of UL 325 and summarizes built-in reversal within two seconds, a connection for an external sensing device, a 30-second reopen clock and a manual release.

Checks to keep doing

Leave springs and cables to a technician

DASMA's safety tips say springs and lift cables are under high tension and should be serviced only by a trained technician, that doors with extension springs need a safety cable through each spring, and recommend monthly safety checks, an annual technician visit and professional installation.
