What the form records

Wind load and impact are different questions

DASMA's Florida insurance sheet says opening protection concerns wind-borne debris resistance, not wind-load resistance, and that a non-glazed, wind-load-compliant door that is not impact rated neither earns nor disqualifies an opening-protection credit. That sheet's chart reflects the 2012 form revision, so read the current April 2026 form for the governing wording.

What stays with the insurer

Premium credit amounts are set by each insurer's rate filing. The OIR wind mitigation resources page directs consumers to confirm that an inspector is authorized under section 627.711(2)(a), Florida Statutes. FEMA's overview of its residential wind retrofit guide places garage doors rated for the design wind pressure, and debris protection for glazed garage doors, in its intermediate mitigation package; that is guidance, not a code requirement.
