Venice and Sarasota garage door quote checklist
A decision file to complete before comparing garage door quotes: jurisdiction, design pressure, approval, assembly, opener, permit and inspection records.
What is not established
- This checklist does not establish a price, schedule, approval, permit or warranty result.
- Measurements and design pressures must come from qualified project parties.
- No business is recommended or enrolled.
Print or save this checklist from your browser if a paper planning copy would help. Do not add private household or payment details to a shared copy.
Property and requirement
- Property address and the confirmed permitting jurisdiction: City of Venice, City of Sarasota or unincorporated Sarasota County.
- Opening width and height as measured by the installer.
- The positive and negative design pressures the opening requires, and who determined them.
- Whether the door has glazing, and whether the building department treats the site as a wind-borne debris region.
The quoted door
- Manufacturer, family and model name, with the official product page.
- Rated positive and negative design pressures for the quoted size and reinforcement.
- Florida approval number, its code version and limits of use.
- Reinforcement, springs, track and jamb attachment included in the assembly.
- Glazing type and impact rating, if any, with the test standard named.
Opener, safety and records
- Opener make and model, entrapment protection and photo-eye placement.
- Who pulls the permit, and the contractor's license number and class to check on the DBPR search.
- Which documents you receive for a later wind-mitigation inspection.
- Price, schedule, removal and disposal, warranty terms and exclusions, written down by the seller.
No energy label to compare
ENERGY STAR's windows, doors and skylights criteria cover entry and patio doors rated through NFRC and do not mention garage doors, so a garage door quote has no ENERGY STAR or NFRC label to compare.
The checklist items restate questions raised by DASMA, the Florida Building Commission, the OIR form, DBPR and ENERGY STAR pages; it adds no requirement of its own.
